To the Baroudeur community
Since Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson introduced the idea in 2014, the Baroudeur cycling event has brought thousands of cyclists to Detroit and our Midtown campus to raise money for students. Over the years, we're proud to have built a ride that became known by many as the best around. However, after great consideration, we have decided to no longer host the Wayne State University Baroudeur.
Putting on an event of the Baroudeur's magnitude takes considerable time and resources throughout the year. Due to shifting priorities and increased demands, we must focus our efforts on other university initiatives.
We're humbled by the community the Baroudeur has built. We've loved watching the camaraderie among our cyclists and witnessing the countless friendships that were borne out of the event and its weekly training rides. We are so grateful to have hosted six successful, safe events. To host hundreds of riders annually without a major safety incident or any weather issues is remarkable. We hope the events will be remembered fondly.
This event started as a larger-than-life idea, and with your support, it became a reality. We sincerely thank all our riders, volunteers and sponsors for their loyal support over the years. We hope that you will keep riding, and keep the Barouduer spirit alive.
